Nathan Merritt

GRC Manager, state government

I build risk and compliance programs that people actually use.

Cybersecurity GRC leader in West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle, close to the DC metro: vulnerability management, risk assessment, and audit support in regulated environments.

About

I run security risk and compliance for large, spread-out organizations, where the hard part is getting many separate teams to do the same sensible thing. My background runs from hands-on vulnerability and endpoint work to leading a risk team, with audit support throughout: evidence, system security plans, auditor questions, and findings tracked to closure. I’m comfortable explaining a finding to an engineer on Tuesday and to an executive on Wednesday.

Beyond the job

Off the clock, I recharge by hiking the rugged mountain trails of my native West Virginia or getting lost in a great book. I’m an avid reader of US history, American literature, and classic hardboiled detective fiction, particularly the gritty worlds built by William Faulkner, Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, and Ross Macdonald. West Virginia history is a particular favorite, and I’m a Knight of the Golden Horseshoe, the state’s honor for knowledge of its history.
